Melinda Hopkirk

coaching for people navigating change

About

I’m Melinda Hopkirk, and I coach people who know something needs to change but are not yet sure what comes next.

You may be questioning your work, navigating a life transition, rebuilding confidence, or simply realising that a role or way of living that once fitted no longer does.

My approach is thoughtful, practical and grounded. I create space for you to step out of the mental noise, understand what is really going on, and work out what matters to you now.

As an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and Martha Beck Certified Wayfinder Life Coach, I combine professional coaching with practical frameworks and reflective tools where they are useful.

I won’t tell you what you should do. Instead, I’ll help you notice patterns, challenge assumptions, explore possibilities and build greater trust in your own judgement.

The aim is not to have your whole future figured out. It is to find enough clarity to choose what comes next and begin moving towards it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a coaching session?
Each session starts with what feels most important to you that day.

We may explore a decision, a pattern you have noticed, something that feels stuck, or a change you are considering.

I will listen, ask questions, reflect what I am noticing and help you look at the situation from different angles.

Some sessions may lead to a clear decision or action. Others may help you understand something differently.

The overall process follows a simple rhythm:

Pause → Clarify → Choose → Move

But the sessions themselves are not scripted. We work with what is most useful to you.

What is it like to work with you?
My coaching style is thoughtful, practical and direct.

I will give you space to think, but I will also notice patterns, ask questions, reflect back what I hear and challenge assumptions when that seems useful.

I am not there to tell you what to do or to hand you a ready-made answer. The aim is to help you hear your own thinking more clearly, make sense of what is happening and decide what feels right for you.

Where helpful, I may also introduce a simple framework or reflective exercise, but the coaching remains centred on your own goals and decisions.
Do I need to know exactly what I want before I start?
No.

In fact, many people come to coaching because they know something needs to change but cannot yet see what the next step should be.

You do not need a perfect goal or a five-year plan.

We can begin with what feels unclear, frustrating, unfinished or difficult, and work from there.
How does coaching differ from therapy?
Coaching and therapy can overlap in the kinds of topics people bring, but they are different forms of support.

Coaching is generally focused on your present situation, what you want to change or create, and how you want to move forward.

Therapy may be more appropriate when the main need is treatment for mental health difficulties, significant trauma, or emotional distress that requires clinical support.

If something comes up that is outside the scope of coaching, I will say so and encourage you to seek the right kind of professional support.
How quickly will I notice a difference?
There is no fixed timetable.

Some people gain clarity in the first session. For others, useful changes emerge gradually as they begin noticing patterns, questioning assumptions and trying different ways of responding.

The aim is not to force a breakthrough. It is to build enough clarity and self-trust that you can make decisions and move forward in a way that feels grounded and sustainable.
What if I don't get the result I hoped for?
Coaching is a collaborative process, so I cannot guarantee a particular outcome.

What I can provide is a focused, confidential space to help you think more clearly, challenge assumptions, explore possibilities and make decisions with greater awareness.

Sometimes the result is a clear decision. Sometimes it is a change in perspective, a stronger sense of what matters, or the confidence to take a first step.

You remain responsible for the choices and actions that come out of the coaching.
